Synthwave, or Outrun: the 2010s' earnest celebration of a 1984 that never happened. Vibrant neon against dark blues and blacks, a perspective grid, a striped sun, palm silhouettes, chrome and italic script lettering, scanlines. The research keeps it apart from vaporwave on purpose.
Where vaporwave is dreamy and ironic, synthwave is sincere: it wants the arcade cabinet and the film poster back. The grid is a wireframe floor the hardware no longer needs, and the scanlines are a CRT that is not there. That is the definition of a revival in this gallery: a dead constraint kept for the feeling.
A midnight gradient, a sun whose horizontal gaps widen toward the horizon, a mountain line with a neon rim, palms and a Monoton title are cached. The grid is stroked with shadowBlur each frame and its horizontals move toward the viewer. The figure is a chrome gradient clipped to the silhouette, darkened per face, with cyan neon features, under two-pixel scanlines.
