Vaporwave, out of online music communities around 2011 and peaking by 2016: classical sculpture, Greco-Roman columns, Windows 95 imagery, palms, dolphins, malls, Japanese text, pastel pink and cyan, and VHS damage. The album art used an Ecco the Dolphin screenshot.
Nostalgia for the consumer-tech optimism of the nineties and for dead-mall capitalism, made in cheap tools from screenshots. It reuses Windows 95 chrome wholesale, which is why the research note puts the two plates together: Windows 95 is the straight version, this is the remix. A revival, and a knowing one.
A pink-and-cyan checker floor in perspective, a fluted column, a palm and a Windows dialog are cached. The figure is shaded as a marble bust with a warm highlight, drawn into a layer, split into red, green and blue copies with the outer two offset two pixels, then re-blitted in three-row strips that jitter sideways. A band of noise rolls up the picture.
